San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport New Terminal, Concourse, Parking Structure and Access Roads,
San Luis Obispo,  California
A major expansion of the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport is planned with the construction of a new terminal and concourse with passenger aircraft ramp, a new parking structure, and new access roads.  The rectangular three-story terminal will have a footprint of approximately 28,000 square feet.  The concourse will be approximately 15,000 feet square and will extend south, perpendicular to the terminal.  The lower entry level of the terminal, which will be constructed 10 feet below existing grade, will be used for baggage screening.  At ground level, the ticketing area and concourse will be constructed.  The upper level terminal will be used for administration and concessions.  The upper level concourse will be used for waiting and boarding areas, and the lower level will be open and used for airline operations.  The terminal and concourse will be seismically separated, and will be of steel-frame and metal-stud and/or masonry construction.  The new passenger aircraft ramp will extend from the terminal building to the new connecting taxiways, and will also extend to the east to the edge of the new access road.  The new three-story parking structure will have a footprint of up to 75,000 square feet.  It will be of precast or cast-in-place concrete construction.  Earth Systems Pacific conducted a soils engineering investigation entailing site reconnaissance, field exploration, laboratory testing, and geotechnical analysis of data.   Preliminary geotechnical recommendations for site preparation, grading, utility trenches, foundations, slabs-on-grade, retaining walls, pavement sections, and drainage were developed.

Santa Barbara Municipal Airport
Our most recent work at the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport is the AIP-09 Project for which we performed a geotechnical engineering investigation and testing and inspection. The project involved the overlay of the entire main runway with three courses of asphalt concrete and a finish layer of porous friction course. We provided on-site asphalt concrete testing and soils testing and performed all testing at night during a complete runway shut-down. Prior to this project, we provided design criteria for construction of terminal ramps, holding aprons, and service roads for Elements 1 through 4; and performed soils engineering investigations and provided testing and inspection services for Projects AIP-07 and AIP-08 which involved runway construction, construction of stabilized shoulders for taxiways, expansion and reconstruction with concrete of a terminal apron, and construction of holding aprons including lighting and marking.
