The Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center of Pasadena

The Mothers’ Club Center is a Gold Level certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) building.  A former industrial building in an Enterprise Zone was converted to the non-profit child care and parent education facility.

Earth Systems Southern California provided geotechnical consulting and materials testing to support the goal of building re-use.  Our investigations included X-ray and core-sampling of the existing masonry building walls to determine the material strengths and type and size of steel reinforcement; test pits around the perimeter of the building to establish dimensions of the foundations on the existing building as well as soil types and soil quality; soil exploration and infiltration testing for the storm-water infiltration gallery and pervious pavement designs.  During construction, we provided grading observation and soil compaction testing.
