Los Angeles Tennis Club –New Grandstand Building with Locker Rooms, and New Parking Lot, Los Angeles, California
The Los Angeles Tennis Club in west Los Angeles, California is an 80-year old facility situated in a densely populated part of town. The existing main grandstand needs replacement, and the facility lacks adequate parking. The site falls within a liquefaction hazard zone mapped by the State of California, a methane hazard zone mapped by the City of Los Angeles, and a dense urban area where stormwater quality is regulated. The proposed improvements will include an approximately 5,000 square foot grandstand building with locker rooms, and a 10,000 square foot parking lot with stormwater quality control features.
Earth Systems Southern California has been retained to investigate the geotechnical, geologic, and environmental conditions at the site. Our personnel have performed a geotechnical engineering investigation which included subsurface exploration, laboratory soil testing, and liquefaction analysis. A Phase I Environmental Assessment was performed, as well as a methane investigation, and a stormwater infiltration study. Conclusions were presented regarding potential geologic and environmental hazards. Recommendations were developed for an impermeable barrier to minimize explosion hazards from the accumulation of methane in the building.
